The Importance of Skincare in a Makeup Routine

Tips from our experts on a good skincare routine.

Skincare is so important! Skincare helps to clean, protect, and nourish the skin, while makeup can help to enhance your natural beauty. Many people will overlook the importance of makeup removal in their beauty regimen. The skin is the body’s largest organ, so we must take care of it! While makeup can help us unleash our creativity, we also must consider the face behind it.

Skin prep before makeup application is just as important as the makeup you put on top of it, if not more important. Makeup is temporary; skin is forever. I’ve always said you can only have the perfect face with the ideal base.

Well-prepped skin before applying makeup makes the skin more smooth for applying foundation and helps the makeup to stay much longer than usual. It’s like painting; you would only paint a wall by prepping and priming it beforehand. Your makeup will last much longer if your skin is clean and hydrated.

It is essential to consider your skin type; The products you use will vary depending on your skin type. The main thing is that your skin should be clean, hydrated, and free of texture.

While we do our skin prep, we can also consider that some products are skin care infused. Skincare-infused makeup is definitely a trend that is on the rise. We can purchase primers and foundations infused with SPF to protect the skin. Some products contain hydration agents or anti-aging ingredients, so while doing your makeup, you are also treating your skin.

One of my favourite products is

IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better Cc+ Cream Illumination

It’s a great foundation infused with skincare agents to take care of the skin during the day, but it also is a quality product to make your skin look radiant and flawless.

I believe makeup removal is more important than makeup application. Some cosmetic products can clog your pores, cause acne breakouts, and make your skin look dull if not removed at the end of the day.

I am a massive supporter of the double cleanse. The first cleanse is to remove everything on the surface; your makeup, dirt, and excess oils. I love a makeup-melting balm (My favourites are Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm Makeup Remover and Drunk Elephant Slaai Makeup-Melting Butter Cleanser and Bamboo Booster but I also love any oil-based cleanser for the first cleanse.

I chose an oil-based cleanser for the first cleanse because oil removes surface makeup like a dream! Even the toughest, long-lasting, waterproof makeup can be removed by oil-based cleansers. The second cleanse will address your particular skin type or concern and should have ingredients to hydrate, smooth or exfoliate and treat acne. This helps prevent any of the symptoms of not removing the makeup I mentioned above. For the second cleanse, choose a cleanser that works best for your skin type.

A good skincare routine before and after makeup application can positively affect your skin. Essentially, you are treating yourself, and it will reward you with smoother, radiant skin. This can help boost your confidence in your skin and yourself. Investing in a good skincare routine is something nobody will ever regret! After all, improved skin can reduce makeup usage depending on the final desired look. A product that works for one person, might not work for you. Please remember to do your research before you purchase skin care products or consult a specialist to determine what products would be the best for your skin concerns. Your skin will thank you!
